Following Vladimir Putin’s proposal to stop military hostilities on May 9, the day Russia celebrates the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Thursday that he had asked the United States for more details on the conditions of this ceasefire.
Zelensky questions the precise nature of the Russian proposal: “we will clarify exactly what this is about: a few hours of security for a parade in Moscow, or something more significant. Our proposal is for a long-term ceasefire.”
Do Ukrainians believe in the announcement of a ceasefire? “If it’s a complete ceasefire, then yes. But a partial one, no, we should not make concessions to them,” said Nadia Maiboroda, a 71-year-old displaced by the Russian invasion, in an interview with AFP in Kiev.
