Tehran announced the total closure of the Strait of Hormuz on the morning of Thursday June 11. With this new escalation in the Middle East, can we still talk about a ceasefire between Iran and the United States?

Columns of smoke in the distance: an image of Iran, bombed once again on the night of June 10 to 11 by the United States. The strikes left three people injured. The attack was followed by an immediate response from the Iranians on American bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain. On site, a residential area was also hit by projectile debris, injuring an 11-year-old child.

Over the past 48 hours, American pressure has intensified to try to push the Iranians to quickly sign a peace agreement. “As President Trump said, Iran is hitting, hitting, hitting our agreement and we are going to hit, hit, hit their country’s infrastructure. We will be loud and clear“, warned Peter Hegseth, the American Minister of Defense.

But this American bombing diplomacy has had the opposite effect. During the night, Tehran announced a new closure of the Strait of Orrmuz for an indefinite period, leading to a further rise in the price of oil on the markets. “In view of the American terrorist attacks and the insecurity in the region, the Strait of Orrmuz is closed to all boats. Any ship that attempts to cross it will be targeted.“, we could hear on Iranian television.

Is a rapid agreement still possible in this context? In nearly 15 days, President Trump has spoken of an imminent agreement 38 times, according to the press in the United States. For the moment, its strategy seems to have reached an impasse. Tehran, which is playing for time, affirms that supreme guide Mojtaba Khamenei still does not intend to validate, as it stands, the American plan.
