The Battle of Gaulle records just under 400,000 admissions for its first week in theaters

The first part of Antonin Baudry’s diptych, dedicated to The General, takes second place at the French box office this week, behind the sixth part of the American horror parody Scary Movie.

Antonin Baudry undoubtedly hoped for better.The Battle of Gaulle – The Iron Agethe Parisian director’s mega production, recorded around 383,000 admissions in 560 theaters for its first week in theaters, according to the first figures relayed by The French Film. According to observers, this is quite little for a feature film which – adding its sequel I write your namein theaters on July 3 – cost more than 75 million euros to Pathé studios and its financiers. For comparison, the first part ofThree Musketeerswhich had a similar budget, attracted more than a million spectators to cinemas in 2023 for its first week of operation.

With this rather disappointing score, the first part of The Battle of Gaulle fails to take the lead at the French box office this week. The film, lasting 2 hours 40 minutes, carried by actor Simon Abkarian in the role of the General, is positioned behind an American production. The sixth episode of the horrific and funny adventures ofScary Movie  slides into first position in the ranking with only 13,000 more entries. However, this is the worst start to the saga in France. The first part, released in 2000, attracted more than 1.5 million people. The second recorded a million entries in the first week, the third 700,000 and the fourth 500,000. The fifth was only released in VOD format.

Michael always on top
