Traveling this Friday, May 15 to the scene of the deadly shooting which took place in Nantes, the Minister of the Interior Laurent Nuñez spoke and assured that this event strengthened “his determination in the fight against drug trafficking”.

The day after the deadly shooting which cost the life of a 15-year-old teenager in Nantes, the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, visited the Port-Boyer district, the scene of the tragedy, this Friday, May 15. The shootings, which also left two people injured, would have broken out due to a settling of scores linked to drug trafficking, according to the Nantes prosecutor.

“This event only strengthens my determination, and that of the government, to continue this intractable fight against drug trafficking, which leads to tragedies. We saw it here, we saw it in Nice a few days ago (where two people were killed in a shooting on Monday Editor’s note). When we destabilizes the territories, we create turf wars”, he declared at the exit of building number three in the district, while no arrests have been carried out at this stage, according to information from BFMTV.

“All these facts only strengthen our determination in this war against drug trafficking. We owe it to the residents who can no longer stand this traffic,” he added.

“Additional means to continue this intractable war”

The shooting of this Thursday, May 14, during which “two individuals came to open fire on a group of young adolescents”, is the 26th episode of shootings recorded in the city since the start of 2026, assured Thursday, May 15, Johanna Rolland, mayor of Nantes. An “intolerable” situation for the Minister of the Interior, who has “strengthened the police force” in the sector.

The former Paris police chief also announced the establishment of an “investigation” plan, “validated by the Prime Minister”, which provides for the recruitment of “700 additional police officers”, including “300 dedicated to organized crime alone”. A branch of the Anti-Narcotics Office (OFAST) will also be created soon in Nantes, where accusations linked to drug trafficking increased by 36% last year.

“Judicial investigations will continue everywhere in the territory. Everywhere, we will continue to dismantle networks […]. We are putting in additional resources. We will continue this intractable war,” he insists.

In addition to these direct and local measures, Laurent Nuñez assures that “it is not over”. With the government, he will present to the Senate, this Monday, May 18, his RIPOST bill, which “also includes a certain number of measures which will allow us to intensify the fight against organized crime, essentially by strengthening the legal means of investigators”.

“We will not give up. What happened yesterday is very serious, it is unacceptable. There are still many battles to be won, but we will not lose this war against drug trafficking,” he concludes.
