At the Saint-Maximin college, the Defense class changes partners and will work with the Var gendarmerie group

Until now in partnership with the Army Light Aviation School (EALAT), the Defense class of the Henri-Matisse college, in Saint-Maximin, will now work with the Var gendarmerie group.

In order to present this class to future students wishing to join it, the 240 students of 4^e were invited to discover it. For the occasion, the referent professor Jean-Michel Thobert, the principal Karine Richard-Brun, colonel Grégory Goumain, lieutenant-colonel Frédéric Dauboeuf of the Var gendarmerie group and Marc Ledoux, representing the Society of members of the Legion of Honor, were present.

Seventy students opened the doors to the meeting room, driven by curiosity, the desire to integrate into a school option, passion, or even with the aim of being part of a coherence. Like Clara, a young firefighter, who wishes to join the Gendarmerie Surveillance and Intervention Platoon (Psig) in the future in the “to help people”.

At the end of the presentation, the students understood the interest in the gendarmerie: no desire to recruit, but a desire to raise awareness of this profession which has an overly restrictive image among young people and to include this generation in a civic path. To do this, the establishment will use funds to propose a real educational project.

After having discovered the different professions in a theoretical way, they will go to Valletta, to meet the different services, get their idea of the diversity of professions, have access to behind the scenes of what is often only seen at the television, “men in white suits” For example.

The memory journey will also be important: “November 11 and May 8 are holidays, but this class must be at the commemoration and actively participate. HAS” The desire is to make these young people ambassadors to other classes and parents, in particular with a video presentation of the year. A visit to the Mont Faron memorial and perhaps to Camp des Milles are also planned.

In any case, this option open to all will add an hour to the schedule of the 30 selected. The result of their work can partly be used for their oral examination of the patent.

The enthusiasm continued the following hour in the presence of the current Defense class and those taking their aeronautics initiation certificate. It was in their presence that the agreement between the establishment and the gendarmerie was officially signed under the watchful eye of Mayor Vesselina Garello.
