The Afrik’Albi festival returns for a fourth edition at the Champollion University gymnasium. Between African dances, a craft market and Senegalese meals, the event celebrates African culture in a friendly atmosphere.

The Jamano association is preparing the fourth edition of the Afrik’Albi festival. On June 6 and 7, numerous activities will be organized at the Champollion University gymnasium.

This event is the initiative of Abib Sow, a Senegalese who has lived in Albi for many years. Today he is a teacher of African dances. This festival is therefore an opportunity for him and his students to exhibit the dances that have been worked on throughout the year. His classes are aimed at adults and children.

Afrik’Albi is also an opportunity to “share African culture”, as Abib Sow explains. This is why the two days are organized in such a way that one part is devoted to dance and another to broader culture.

All day long, dance performances follow one another as well as introductory courses provided by Abib. From 7 p.m., a creators’ market will be present, the opportunity to buy all kinds of African artisanal products. We will also find a typical Senegalese meal on the menu: chicken yassa. A group from Bordeaux will provide a nightly musical show, always with dancing.

The festival promises to be placed under the sign of “joy and good humor”, describes Abib. Entrance is free until 7 p.m., then costs €5. As for the evening meal, it is offered at €10. Abib adds that he is obliged to charge entry, because his association does not benefit from any subsidy. If many people come, he hopes to be able to expand the festival.
