  • The Crisis situation (IPC Phase 3) continues in conflict zones at the start of the lean seasonin a context of continuing clashes between armed groups and government forces in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu which continue to disrupt livelihoods, access to food and cause significant displacement. This insecurity reduces household participation in agricultural activities in season 1 (S1).
  • Low stock levels and reduced participation in agricultural activities in S1 reinforce household dependence on markets for access to food. As a result of persistent conflicts in these areas, households are seeing their livelihoods deteriorate, losing access to their assets and resorting to negative coping strategies to access food. Thus, despite the June harvests, these households should continue to experience gaps in food consumption, which maintains the need for food assistance at least until September.
  • Supply chain disruptions linked to developments in the Middle East have led to rising prices in the markets, primarily affecting fuel. The government increased the prices of petroleum products according to the subdivision of the national market into four regions. This dynamic is beginning to reduce the purchasing power of poor households, further reducing their access to food on the markets; particularly in eastern areas already weakened by armed conflicts, where households resort to negative strategies.
  • The relatively complete agricultural campaign expected to keep central territories in Stressed (IPC Phase 2)despite structural constraints – notably the deterioration of roads, which limits producers’ access to markets – and the drop in supply, which leads to an increase in prices.
