On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Emmanuel Macron asked for “new responses” from his government to address the fuel price crisis in an unstable context of war in the Middle East.

While President Donald Trump reaffirmed on Tuesday, April 28, that he had “militarily defeated” Iran, Emmanuel Macron on his side demanded “new responses” from his government to tackle the fuel price surge issue on Wednesday, April 29, as reported by Le Parisien.

During the Cabinet meeting, the President asked “the entire government to continue meeting with the professions affected by the rise in energy and fuel prices, ministry by ministry,” according to government spokesperson Maud Bregeon.

Emmanuel Macron specifically requested from his government “support responses for liquidity” and “targeted responses” to anticipate the weeks to come. The French President believes that the “affected professions” should be seen “ministry by ministry” to be able to “provide and build” concrete answers with those directly impacted by the price hike.

As reported by BFM Business, Maud Bregeon was asked during the Cabinet meeting if there could be a tax on oil superprofits. Her response was that the government “does not rule anything out.” “No one should profit from this crisis, especially in France,” declared the spokesperson.

While ruling out any “Total bashing,” the French oil giant unveiled its net income for the first quarter on Wednesday, April 29. TotalEnergies doubled its profit year-on-year, reaching $5.8 million (4.96 million euros). These results were boosted by the increase in oil prices linked to the Middle East war.
