On the occasion of its local congress, the Narbonnaise section of the French Communist Party renewed its efforts and set its orientations for the next three years, between social actions, defense of public services and international commitments.
On June 13 and 14, the Narbonne section of the French Communist Party (PCF) participated in the local congress, which is part of the 40th PCF congress. The departmental congress took place on June 20 and 21, before the national congress scheduled for July 3, 4 and 5. For almost three months, there were numerous debates and discussions in advance to vote on texts.
Out of nearly 130 pages, 4 texts were selected and resulted in a vote by members. What’s more “a text had the majority with almost 87% of the votes”specifies Patrick Castey, re-elected secretary. The assessment of the last three years was also carried out, and the PCF of Narbonne was able to note “that we have done a lot of things, such as solidarity actions, collectives or even political actions”.
A new office
In addition, a new office made up of 14 equal members has been established as well as a secretariat of 5 equally equal members for a period of three years. The latter is made up of: Patrick Castey, re-elected as secretary; Yvan Sanchez, treasurer; Claude Mazaury, organizational secretary; Théo Demenge, deputy secretary as well as Josette Sobues, deputy treasurer.
Patrick Castey also discussed the local axes for the coming years and the objective of“to continue things started” like: the fight for access to care for all, solidarity actions at the local or international level, the fight for local public defense as well as contact with company employees, the last very important point for the PCF, as its secretary explains: “It is a low-wage area with precarious work and high unemployment. The city of Narbonne has a poverty rate above 20%.”
Affirmed local and international priorities
On the side of the departmental congress, four Narbonnais applied at the departmental level. Théo Demenge will be elected local delegate to the national congress.
“We claim to be the party of peace”continues Patrick Castey who specifies that the PCF of Narbonne carries out many actions “on the aspect of peace” and that “the war has repercussions on the life of the people of Narbonne”. The latter achieves even more “strong actions at the international level, whether in Iran or the Middle East”.
With this new office, the Narbonne section of the PCF intends to continue its local actions and carry out its commitments over the next three years.
