I had some time to kill today and looked back at some of my old comments, thought this one was interesting. Here’s what I’d thought were the team’s needs a few months ago; to be clear, this was after signing Woolen and Epps but before the draft/Greenard trade:
– Need a bigger bodied defensive end who can rush the passer
– Time to draft for Lane Johnson’s replacement, if things fall correctly
– Need more depth on the O-line in general, particularly at guard
– If he-who-shall-not-be-named based on this comments section ends up traded, need another starting caliber outside WR
– More safety depth, possibly a higher end starter if one is available through FA, trade, or the draft
– Probably more CB depth wouldn’t hurt but they look like they’re in pretty good shape there… ok, moving on…
– Fingers crossed Jake Elliott figures it out from distance
– Hope the offense comes together under a new OC and a bunch of new coaches, and that Hurts performs well in the new system
– Pay the young guys on defense who are up for extensions
– Identify a successor for Vic, particularly if Hurtt isn’t given the job
I’m honestly not trying to self-aggrandize but I wanted to put this as a feed post because it reminded me once again that this is literally the best time ever to be an Eagles fan, for me. Instead of being mad most of the year about the team neglecting obvious problems, I’m happy that they’re always trying to address them. They’ve done something to try and figure out everything I’d been concerned about, except maybe the Jake Elliott thing, which is tricky given his contract. Who knows if it will all work out, but man, it could be worse, and has been so, so, so much worse for so many years.
How are you all feeling about the offseason so far? Any additional moves you think should be made before TC other than maybe extending Jalen Carter?
