The American Ja’Kobe Tharp broke the old world record in the 110m hurdles in 12.75 (wind: + 1.0 m/s) in the series of the American university championships (NCAA) on Wednesday in Eugene (United States).
The 20-year-old hurdler, who had never run under 13 seconds before, subtracted five hundredths from the previous world record set by his compatriot Aries Merritt in 2012 (12″80). Seeing his time at the finish, he jumped for joy, completely stunned by his own performance.
“I knew I had it in my legs but it was clearly not in my bingo for this competition, retired Tharp, selon le media olympics.com. I felt fast, but seeing this time, I’m speechless.”
The athlete from the University of Auburn (Alabama), 6th at the World Championships in Tokyo in September 2025, had already stood out this winter when he achieved the third best world performance of all time over 60m hurdles (the distance run indoors), in 7 “32, at 5 hundredths of the world record.
