Argentina and Vietnam strengthen parliamentary cooperation
The Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina, Ngô Minh Nguyêt, received, Monday June 8 in Buenos Aires, Senator Jorge Milton Capitanich, president of the Asian Friendship Group of the Argentine Senate.

The Vietnamese diplomat presented the results of the XIVe National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the recent legislative elections and the consolidation of state leadership during the first half of the year. She also highlighted the international community’s support for Vietnam’s achievements and foreign policy.
Ambassador Ngô Minh Nguyêt indicated that bilateral relations continue to develop positively in various fields, including politics, diplomacy, economy, education and culture, after more than fifty years of relations.
She noted that trade has experienced strong growth in recent years. Argentina is currently Vietnam’s third largest trading partner in Latin America, while Vietnam ranks seventh among Argentina’s trading partners and first in the Southeast Asian market. Bilateral trade is expected to reach $4.5 billion by 2025.
The diplomat also stressed that the two countries are developing their cooperation in new sectors, including industry, advanced agriculture, science and technology, culture, sports and exchanges between localities, with a view to progressing towards a strategic partnership in the agro-industrial sector.
For his part, Senator Capitanich expressed his interest in deepening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, as well as in strengthening ties between political forces and state institutions, and in increasing exchanges of delegations.
He also declared his readiness to support negotiations for a preferential trade agreement (PCA) between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).
Senator Capitanich stressed the need to boost bilateral collaboration in high-tech sectors, develop exchanges between localities of the two countries and strengthen coordination within international bodies such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
He also highlighted the opening of the office of the Argentine agricultural and industrial attaché in Hanoi, demonstrating the strategic importance that Argentina accords to Vietnam.
