“Copland,” the James Mangold film released in 1997 starring Sylvester Stallone, will become a series for Paramount+.
It was announced at the start of the year that a television series adapted from “Cop Land” by James Mangold (“Walk the Line”, “A Complete Stranger”) was in development. According to Deadline, the series finally found a buyer on the side of Paramount+.
Director of the original film, James Mangold, who is currently working on “High Side,” a thriller with Timothée Chalamet, will co-write the screenplay with Robert Levine, co-creator of “The Old Man,” and will direct and produce.
“Cop Land” starred Sylvester Stallone in one of his best roles, that of the sheriff of Garrison, a small town in New Jersey, who will oppose corrupt New York police officers residing in the region. Also in the cast were Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Peter Berg, Robert Patrick, Michael Rapaport, Annabella Sciorra, Noah Emmerich and Robert De Niro.
This will not be James Mangold’s first foray into television, for which he directed the pilots for the series “NYC 22” and “Vegas.”
