The Romanian head of state insisted on the fact that a complete technical expertise had been carried out and demonstrated the “sole responsibility” of Moscow in the crash of a drone on a building on the night of May 28 to 29.
The drone which struck a building in Romania, near the border with Ukraine, on the night of May 28 to 29, is a Geran-2, a Russian-designed device, Romanian President Nicusor Dan said on Sunday. “The drone that crashed Thursday evening in Galati is a Geran-2, of Russian origin. This is the unequivocal conclusion of the technical report finalized by the Romanian state experts”he assured in a message on X, accompanied by four images supposed to show this device.
A 14-year-old boy and a 53-year-old woman were hospitalized following this first fall of a drone on a residential building outside Ukraine in the context of the Russian invasion launched in February 2022.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, thanked his Romanian counterpart for his “clarify” after this announcement. “Facts are the best remedy for (Vladimir) Putin’s lies and they prove that Russia’s manipulations will not go away.”he commented on social networks. Before adding: “Ukraine is ready to work closely to counter common threats and strengthen the protection of lives, not only in our country but also in friendly Romania and the rest of Europe.”
The Russian embassy in Bucharest accused kyiv of orchestrating a provocation and the Russian president said on Friday that “person” could not determine with certainty the origin of the drone until a thorough analysis had been carried out.

In his message on Sunday, the Romanian head of state insisted on the fact that a complete technical expertise had been carried out and demonstrated the “sole responsibility” from Moscow. “The Cyrillic inscription EPAH-2 was identified on the recovered fragments. Analysis of electronic components, navigation systems, control modules, engine and structural elements reveals similarities – even identical characteristics – with those of other Geran-2 drones previously found on Romanian territory“, he continued. “Physical and chemical analyzes confirmed the presence of the same types of materials and fuels as those repeatedly identified in the machines of this series”said Mr. Dan again.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, dozens of drones have been lost in Romania. The aircraft which fell on a building during the night of Thursday to Friday entered Romanian airspace at the very moment when the Russian army was striking in Ukraine, the Romanian authorities stressed.
“Based on the serial numbers of the components found on site, it is undoubtedly a Russian-made product.”Romanian Defense Minister Radu-Dinel Miruta said on Friday evening.
