During his periodic meeting with representatives of the national press, the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune described the last visit of Pope Leo strengthening relations between Algeria and the Vatican.Â
He specified, in this context, that his discussions with the Holy Father focused essentially on bilateral relations and the need to promote them into “perennial and enriching relations for both parties”.
Tebboune took the opportunity to reiterate his thanks to the Pope for this visit, marked by “memorable moments”, notably “his walkabout”. Pope Leo XIV has “perfect knowledge of what is happening in Algeria, which I personally appreciated,” affirmed the President of the Republic. He is also “aware of the efforts made by Algeria on the cultural level,” he added. Regarding the allegations of certain media who wanted to believe that the Pope was carrying messages from leaders of European countries, the President of the Republic assured that the host of Algeria is above considerations which are not up to good relations bilateral. Respecting others implies respecting their freedom, insisted the President of the Republic, stressing that Pope Leo XIV endorses this principle.
