“Up to now, the death of five people has been confirmed,” the Ukrainian president said on the social network X, specifying that “ten people have been hospitalized with injuries and trauma” and that “four hostages have been rescued.”
A woman in her thirties who was shot during the attack succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to six and the number of injured to nine, reported Vitali Klitschko, the city’s mayor, on Telegram.
The prosecutor general, Rouslan Kravtchenko, stated in a press release that the suspect is “a 58-year-old man from Moscow.” He reportedly first opened fire on the street, “after which he barricaded himself inside a supermarket and took hostages.”

“According to preliminary information, he used an automatic weapon. At the same time, a fire broke out in the apartment where the assailant was registered as a resident,” the press release also stated.
A photo attached to the press release shows a person lying in a store aisle, covered in blood, with a weapon at their feet.
A man opened fire on Saturday in the Demyivka district of Kiev. He then barricaded himself in a supermarket where an operation was underway to apprehend him, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko had stated.
