Washington launched strikes against boats suspected of transiting drugs, leaving one dead. These shootings are carried out as part of a contested military campaign which left more than 200 dead

Washington continues its contested campaign against drug trafficking. A man was killed Tuesday June 16 in the eastern Pacific by the American army, she announced, continuing its strikes against boats suspected of being used for drug trafficking as part of a military campaign which left more than 200 dead.

The US military command for Latin America and the Caribbean (Southcom) said in a message on X that the ship targeted on Tuesday “was engaged in drug trafficking operations”.

A campaign denounced by UN officials

A “narco-terrorist” man was killed and two people survived, says the army, which adds that it reported the presence of these two men to the American coast guard so that they could come to their aid. More than 200 people were killed in these strikes, according to an AFP count.

Since September 2025, Washington has been leading a campaign of strikes in the Pacific and the Caribbean against ships presented as participating in drug trafficking activities supplying the United States.

The Donald Trump administration has never provided solid proof to assert that the targeted vessels were actually involved in trafficking. Experts and UN officials have denounced extrajudicial executions.
