On June 27 and 28, the town of Saint-Quay-Portrieux and the Kenleur federation will celebrate Breton culture with the 5th edition of the Eskemm festival, on the casino esplanade. “A festival which honors a traditional Breton culture, but constantly in motion, with a very contemporary vision”, underlined Thierry Simelière, mayor of Saint-Quay-Portrieux, during the presentation of the event, Wednesday June 17.
New for the 2026 edition, the traditional election of Queen An Hanternoz will now be mixed and will be called “Kannaded an Hanternoz”, election of ambassadors.
Three candidates, two young women and a boy, “must present a file concerning, of course, Breton culture. They also choose their costume and will be judged on these two criteria. “It’s a very big job for them,” say Françoise Pouliquen and Daniel Thoraval, co-presidents of Kenleur 22.
On the program
The program will be, once again this year, very rich and dense. Saturday June 27, at 2 p.m., 170 children, more than in previous years, from the department’s Celtic circles will open the festivities, “proud to present their work and their dances of the year,” said Françoise Pouliquen. At 5:45 p.m., Kannaded an Hanternoz election and, at 8 p.m., start of the fest-noz with the Lebreton/Bobinet groups; Strasbourg; Diveaj ; Ribault/Blanchard and Lyrn and Juliette.
Sunday: at 2 p.m., parade of circles and bagado; At 3 p.m., guest groups appear on stage then “Breizh 80” collective show. “A show which generally ends with an improvised fest-noz, the public being invited to join the dancers on stage,” added Thierry Simeliere. No less than 80 volunteers will participate in the expected success of this edition.
