If the prospect of an end to the fighting is welcomed with relief, several Iranians living in France fear that the concessions obtained by Tehran will benefit the government more than the population.

What future for Iranians? The agreement concluded on Monday, June 15, between Washington and Tehran to end their war arouses as much expectation as skepticism in the Middle East and among Iranians living in France. Chakomeh is a Franco-Iranian who lived for twenty years in Tehran and as many in Paris. Since learning of the agreement she has been able to call some relatives in Iran. For her, there is no reason to rejoice about this agreement. “For me, it’s not peace, it’s rather a betrayalshe explains.
“This is not good news because it means that the Iranian government is going to be even stronger than before and they managed to have quite a few advantagescontinues the Franco-Iranian. And these benefits are not for the population. When I talk to people, they have no hope. I live in France, I live in a peaceful and secure country.”
“It’s very easy to say that I speak on behalf of the Iranians, but those I spoke to by telephone told me that they prefer to continue this war, but we will succeed forever in getting rid of this regime.”

Seradeh, an Iranian student in France, is nevertheless happy with the announced end of the bombings which also affected civilians. But for her, the end of this war is not the end of the suffering for the Iranians. “This is good news because the population will possibly be peaceful but at the same time, we have to look at the living conditionsexplains the student. People are very hungry and it’s really getting worse and worse. There is certainly a peace agreement, but can we also help these people who are suffering because there is still the embargo, etc.? The people in power are worse than before. The executions continue to happen. In any case, it’s not over.”
“The situation has gotten worse. They have killed representatives of the regime but the regime has emerged stronger.”

The agreement in principle must be signed on Friday. It requires two more months of talks before a final agreement.
