Iran “begs for a deal. “We’re very close to a deal.” “We’re going to make a deal with Iran and it’s going to be a good deal.”… Guess. Do you know how many times Donald Trump has assured that he is close to an agreement with Iran? CNN looked into the issue and listed all the times the US president announced the imminent end of hostilities. Sometimes with a hint of doubt, more often without any reservations.
Since the unilateral outbreak of war in the Middle East by Trump and his Israeli ally, the American media has made 38 such declarations (in progress) in its count. Moral: we should obviously give no credit on the subject to the most powerful man in the world, whose words certainly serve more to reassure the markets and his voters than to translate the reality on the ground.
Words and bombs
The first remarks of this type date from March 23. The 47th President of the United States then explained to journalists that peace talks were underway. He mentions “major points of agreement, I would say – almost all points of agreement.” In fact, Iran will categorically refuse to negotiate.
Latest statement to date, Tuesday June 9. After attending the NBA Finals in New York, Trump believes that the parties are “in the final throes of what will be a very, very good deal.” Iran has since shot down a US helicopter and the US has responded twice, apparently targeting military installations near the Strait of Hormuz…
