Culture in Agen is getting a new lease of life. Music festival brought forward to June 20, return of Florida, summer concerts at Place des Laitiers and catering at the Ducourneau theater: the season promises to be bountiful.

Subtle changes are looming for culture in Agen. It was one of the first points discussed in the municipal council on June 8.

A facelift for the Music Festival

If the Agen Festival has not yet been discussed, the Music Festival is one of the themes discussed first. This year, it will take place on the 20th, and not the 21st, for calendar reasons. The 21st falls on a Sunday, making it difficult to enjoy the festivities. “This is the first time in around forty years,” underlines Nasser Menni, deputy for culture.

21 groups are planned, for a non-stop party from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. “The perimeter has been expanded,” specifies the deputy. “It extends from the Jasmin district to Place du Pin.”

The big news is the return of the Florida scene. The concert hall will host an eclectic program, from rock to rap to pop. “They hadn’t been invited for a number of years, we thought it was a shame not to involve them anymore.”

Dairy Summer

Every Thursday, from July 2 to August 20, from 8 p.m., a series of rock concerts will heat up the Place des Laitiers. After activity slowed down somewhat by work on old buildings (in 2023, one of them had undergone an endangerment order), the municipality wants to breathe new life into it.

Names known and appreciated by the Agenais like Piccadilly, Gascons Five, the duo Ben & Mylène, and curiosities like Interphone, a tribute group to Téléphone.

Restaurants associated with the theater

Listed as a Historic Monument, the Ducourneau theater is rich in its varied programming. When you leave a show, you want to debrief, to talk about your feelings. And also to have a bite to eat.

Hence the idea of ​​setting up a partnership between food establishments and the theater itself. After the shows, Ducourneau will make its bar, rotunda and hall available for light catering.

“It’s an experiment and we will take stock,” declares Nasser Menni. “We have reserved around ten dates for the moment. The first proposal will take place on September 5, as part of the presentation of the future season.”
