Lesgourgues looked into the expected duel between two masters of the position, by comparing the profiles of
Maxime Luca
and its Irish counterpart
Jamison
Gibson-Park. The former Bordeaux player detailed the complementary qualities of the two scrum halves, emphasizing their differences in impact in the game, their defensive commitment and their personality on the field, two very distinct approaches to the same position. He also underlined the collective dimension which surrounds Maxime Luca in the Bordeaux organization:
« Max has the advantage of having greater footwork than
Gibson-Park [..] Defense is an asset for
Max. I think he has always had this desire to set an example but above all, he loves it and feeds on it to get into his match. We see him very quickly enter the first curtain to tackle. Sometimes he should even not make so many tackles! […] He likes to celebrate key moments in a match or congratulate teammates. It’s his way of showing the team that this is a strong moment.
Gibson-Parkon the other hand, it’s ice cream. He shows nothing, like those cold Irish people who control their emotions.”

He also returned to the gaming environment of Maxime Lucawhich he considers more structured and better distributed than that of his opponent, particularly in the management of rhythm and offensive responsibilities:
« Max is, in the end, much better surrounded to manage the alternation of the game. Everything does not revolve around him and he strives to do what is his responsibility very well. Where Gibson-Park may find himself alone managing camp outings or strong and weak times. It’s important because when you’re alone in charge, sometimes you can get lost.”
