According to Israeli media, the IDF targeted Ezzedine al-Haddad, leader of Hamas in Gaza, in a strike this Friday in the Palestinian enclave. He was considered one of the “architects” of the October 7 attacks.
The Israeli army claimed to have carried out attacks in the Gaza Strip against the highest military official of Hamas in the Palestinian enclave, Ezzedine al-Haddad, in strikes carried out this Friday, May 15.
According to a joint statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, Ezzedine al-Haddad was indeed “assassinated”. It is specified that the leader of Hamas would have “refused to implement the agreement initiated by American President Donald Trump aimed at disarming Hamas”.
Videos shared on social networks and by the Israeli television channel N12 show a thick column of smoke caused by a strike. The accommodation was also on fire at nightfall, confirming an attack carried out this Friday in the Palestinian enclave.
Hamas leader in Gaza for almost a year
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the armed forces carried out a strike in Gaza targeting top terrorist Ezzedine al-Haddad, commander of Hamas’s military wing and one of the main architects of the October 7 massacre,” according to a ministry statement released more early in the day.
In it, Israel Katz claims that Ezzedine al-Haddad “was responsible for the killing, kidnapping and wounding of thousands of Israeli civilians and soldiers,” while “holding our hostages in cruel captivity” and “launching terrorist attacks against our forces.”
“This is a clear message to all the murderers who seek to attack our days: sooner or later, Israel will have you,” he concluded.
The latter succeeded Mohammed Sinwar at the head of the armed wing of Hamas in the Gaza Strip in May 2025.
