WASHINGTON REFUSES BEIJING TO BUY IRANIAN OIL

The United States on Monday sanctioned twelve people and entities linked to Tehran whom they accuse of “facilitating” the sale of Iranian oil to China, just a few days before a meeting between Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. Several members of the Revolutionary Guards, the Iranian ideological army, as well as companies in Dubai and Hong Kong are now on the blacklist of the American government service OFAC.

IRAN’S REACTION

The main Iranian negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, affirmed Monday that Iran was ready to “give a lesson” in the event of aggression, reacting to declarations by Donald Trump on the great fragility of the ceasefire.

“Our armed forces are ready to respond and teach a lesson” in the event of aggression, wrote the president of the Iranian Parliament on the social network X, adding: “we are ready for any eventuality, they will be surprised”.

American President Donald Trump declared on Monday at the White House that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was “on life support”.

A CEASEFIRE “UNDER RESPIRATORY ASSISTANCE”

The ceasefire between the United States and Iran is “on life support”, Donald Trump said on Monday, while the two camps have so far failed to reach an agreement to end the war. “The ceasefire is on massive life support, like when the doctor comes in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has exactly one percent chance of living,'” he said in the Oval Office of the White House.

DONALD TRUMP S’EXPRIME

The ceasefire between the United States and Iran “hangs by a thread”, believes the American president.

He also declared that he had “the best plan”: “Iran has been completely destroyed militarily. There is not much left, probably during the truce they got back on their feet, but they are not going to rebuild everything in a day. And I have a plan, a plan which is very simple (…) the blockade.”

He continues: “We have a lot of ammunition, we have restocked, we have better ammunition than two months ago when we launched this operation. It’s very simple, Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, we will not allow it. And if Iran acquired a nuclear weapon, there would no longer be a Middle East, there would no longer be Israel, it would attack Europe, we are doing the world a service.”

“A COMPLETE VICTORY” PROMISES TRUMP

Donald Trump affirmed Monday that the United States would emerge completely victorious from the war against Iran, in the midst of an impasse between Tehran and Washington to find a solution to the conflict. “We will have a complete victory. We have already had, in theory, a complete victory from a military point of view,” declared the American president to the press at the White House.

DONALD TRUMP

“The Iranians are making a stupid proposal,” insists the President of the United States from the White House. “Iran will never have nuclear weapons,” he added. Donald Trump sharply rejected Iran’s response to American proposals to end the war. “‘I threw the Iranian text in the trash,’ he said.

“THE GREATEST ENERGY SHOCK” EVER KNOWN

The boss of Saudi oil giant Aramco warned on Tuesday that the war in the Middle East had triggered the “biggest energy shock” ever experienced in the world. “Even if the Strait of Hormuz reopened today, it would still take months for the market to rebalance, and if its reopening was delayed by a few more weeks, the return to normal would extend until 2027,” said the CEO of the flagship of the Saudi economy, Amin Nasser, during a call with investors.

RISK OF A “MAJOR HUMANITARIAN CRISIS”

The fertilizer blockage in the Strait of Hormuz risks causing “a major humanitarian crisis” within “a few weeks”, according to a UN official. “We could see a crisis that will plunge 45 million more people into hunger,” said Jorge Moreira da Silva, the head of a UN task force tasked with freeing the passage from these crucial matters, in an interview with AFP.

THREE CIVILIANS DEAD IN SOUTH LEBANON

A drone targeted a home in Zebdine, south of Lebanon, killing three people on Monday: two Bangladeshi workers and a Syrian, according to the Orient correspondent Le Jour.

DECRYPTION

After Donald Trump’s rejection last night of Tehran’s response to the American proposals, negotiations around the enriched uranium available to Iran remain at a standstill. However, the United States has not ruled out, with the help of Israel, going to recover it themselves. Decryption in the article below.Â

LUXURY SECTOR IN DIFFICULTY

Luxury is in decline. The securities of luxury companies are undermined in Europe by a note from Berenberg analysts, estimating that valuations in the sector should fall by “25 to 35%” compared to the level of the last nine years, with the decline in demand in China.

In Paris, LVMH lost 4.16%, Hermès 2.68% and Kering 2.38%. In London, Burberry lost 1.98%. In Milan, Salvatore Ferragamo lost 3.74% and Moncler 3.56%.

A STUDENT EXECUTED IN IRAN

Iran has executed a man suspected of spying for the Israeli and American secret services, Iranian justice announced today, following a series of executions since the start of the war launched by Israel and the United States.

Erfan Shakourzadeh “was hanged for collaboration with the United States intelligence services and the Mossad”, the Israeli foreign services, wrote Mizan, the press organ of the judiciary. According to the NGOs Hengaw and Iran Human Rights (IHR), he was a student at the prestigious University of Science and Technology in Tehran.

Before his execution, he wrote a message rejecting the accusations. “Don’t let another innocent life disappear in silence and without public attention,” he wrote, quoted by these organizations.

IRAN ‘SHOWS NO SIGNS OF CAPITULATION’

“Tehran shows no sign of capitulation” and “calculates that the rise in global oil prices and product shortages will force Trump to end the conflict without obtaining the major concessions, particularly nuclear ones, that he is seeking,” analyzes the American think tank Soufan Center to AFP.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE MEETING BETWEEN DONALD TRUMP AND XI JINPING?

The President of the United States is expected in China from Wednesday to Friday, a first for an American head of state since 2017. Against a backdrop of tensions around the war in the Middle East, the two counterparts oscillate between the search for international “stability” and the desire to “put pressure”.

IRAN DEMANDS “END OF WAR IN REGION”

Tehran is demanding this morning, in its response to American proposals, an end to the war in the entire region, including in Lebanon, and the release of frozen Iranian assets, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The only thing we have demanded is Iran’s legitimate rights,” declared the ministry’s spokesperson, Esmaïl Baghaï, during a weekly press briefing, while American President Donald Trump deemed the Iranian response “totally unacceptable”.

Iran is demanding in particular “the end of the war in the region”, the lifting of the American blockade of Iranian ports and “the release of assets belonging to the Iranian people, which have been unjustly blocked for years”, he added.

THE PARIS STOCK EXCHANGE AT MAST

The Paris Stock Exchange opened lower this morning, overcome by concern over a further rise in oil prices due to the situation in the Middle East, where the prospect of an agreement is once again fading away.

Around 9:30 a.m. Paris time, the flagship index fell 0.59% to 8,064.63 points. Friday, it had already lost 1.09% to 8,112.57 points.

CALL FOR EVACUATION IN LEBANON

The Israeli army is calling for the evacuation of several Lebanese towns and villages this morning, including Rayhan (Jezzine), Jargoa, Kafr Rumman, Numeirieh, Arabsalim, Jamijma, Mashghara, Qalia (West Bekaa), Harouf.

In a statement published on Telegram, the Israeli forces justify this threat, despite the truce, by “the violation of the ceasefire agreement by the terrorist Hezbollah, the Israeli armed forces are forced to act firmly against it”.

NEW RISE IN OIL PRICES

Oil prices are climbing again today amid doubts about the possibility of an agreement between the United States and Iran to end the conflict in the Middle East, making world stock markets cautious.

Around 7:12 a.m., a barrel of Brent from the North Sea, a benchmark on the European continent, gained 3.25% to $104.58.

TRUMP-XI JINPING VERS PLUS “STABILITY”?

Beijing will seek “more stability” in international relations, Chinese diplomacy declared this morning. Donald Trump is expected on Chinese soil from May 13 to 15 to discuss the war in the Middle East, during which China is one of Iran’s main allies.

“China intends to work with the United States on an equal footing, in a spirit of respect and concern for mutual interests, in order to develop cooperation, manage differences and bring more stability and certainty in an unstable and interdependent world”, underlines the spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, during a regular press briefing.

LETTER SENT TO SÉBASTIEN LECORNU

“We must declare a state of emergency for purchasing power and energy,” says Fabien Roussel on TF1 this morning. According to the boss of the communists, “we must act quickly.”

“We have discussions (with the government) but it is not at the level of the crisis,” maintains Fabien Roussel on TF1 this morning. “This will last for a few more years, we need short-term and long-term measures,” he adds.

The president of the French Communist Party suggests “blocking gasoline prices, taxing large oil companies, lowering the price of electricity by up to 30% and increasing wages by 5% to 2,500 euros net.”

CHINA: PRODUCTION PRICE INFLATION AT THE HIGHEST

The Chinese government today announced a higher than expected jump in the prices of goods leaving factories in April, to a level not seen since 2022, due in particular to the surge in costs linked to the war in the Middle East.

About a fifth of the world’s supply of hydrocarbons usually passes through the Strait of Hormuz, blocked by Tehran as well as by an American blockade, which drives up the price of black gold and disrupts global energy supplies, including those of China.

TRUMP-XI JINPING

The American president intends to “put pressure” on his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the subject of Iran during his trip to China this week, an American official said last night. Beijing is one of Tehran’s main allies

“TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE”

Donald Trump castigated last night on his Truth Social network the response provided by Iran to the American proposal to end the war. “Iran has been leading the United States and the rest of the world for 47 years,” he wrote in a previous message. The Iranians “make fun of our country which has now regained its greatness, but they won’t laugh much longer!”

BONJOUR

Welcome to this live broadcast dedicated to the war in the Middle East triggered by Israeli and American strikes in Iran on February 28, 2026. Find the latest information on this conflict here.

Donald Trump brutally rejected on Sunday Iran’s response to American proposals to end the war, once again threatening Tehran, accused of having targeted its Gulf neighbors. “I just read the response from the so-called ‘representatives’ of Iran. I don’t like it – IT’S TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!”wrote the American president in capital letters in a brief message on his Truth Social network.

More than a month after the start of the truce between the two belligerents, negotiations seem more than ever at an impasse and hopes for a settlement nebulous, with neither party having publicly revealed its proposals. After days of waiting, Iran announced on Sunday that it had responded to the American plan, but without detailing its response.

According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which cites sources close to the matter, Tehran’s proposal provides for a gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has blocked since the start of hostilities on February 28, and a simultaneous lifting of the blockade of Iranian ports by the US Navy. According to the American daily, Tehran would also be ready to “dilute” part of its enriched uranium and to send the rest to a “pays tiers”. Washington and many countries suspect Tehran of wanting to acquire atomic weapons via uranium enrichment, which it denies, defending its right to civilian nuclear power.
