While negotiations are slipping to find a peace agreement, Tehran and Washington once again chose the path of escalation during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The US military carried out two series of strikes against Iran after one of its helicopters was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz.

“Self-defense strikes against Iran” began “on the orders of the commander in chief,” Centcom, the American military command for the Middle East, said overnight on X, referring to President Donald Trump. “The mission is a proportionate response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” the army added. “The response should be very strong, very powerful,” said the American president, according to comments reported by the American channel ABC.

Kuwait targeted

According to Iranian media, explosions were heard in several places on the southern coast of Iran, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, still blocked. After a short period of calm, they reported a second series of attacks in the same area, attributed to the United States. US media outlet Axios reported that the strikes targeted several air defense systems and radars around the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, assured on X after the first wave that the Iranian army will leave “no attack or no threat unanswered”. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards then announced that they had targeted an American base in Jordan. During the night, the Kuwaiti army declared that it was targeting “hostile air targets” above its territory, without specifying their origin.
