As she completes her training in the air force, Leonor of Spain has revealed her plans for the upcoming academic year, disclosing what type of degree she intends to pursue to prepare for her future reign.

Destined to become the Queen of Spain, Infanta Leonor did not have the luxury of choosing her post-baccalaureate orientation. Just graduated from UWC Atlantic College, a prestigious high school in Wales, the young girl had to join the ranks of the army rather than attend university. Like her father and grandfather before her, the princess received special training, preparing her for her future role.

For three years, Leonor wore the uniforms of the army, navy, and air force, learning how to fight, navigate, and pilot. After her first solo flight in December, the young woman recently completed a second one this spring. The images of this event were shared by the Palace on Instagram on April 27th.

But it was not the photos of the princess, alone at the controls of her plane, that caught attention, but the statement accompanying these pictures. “Their Majesties the King and Queen announce that Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias will begin a degree in Political Science at the Carlos III University of Madrid. This four-year program will start in the third semester of 2026,” the Palace announced.

Context: Leonor is the heiress apparent to the Spanish throne, expected to become the queen in the future based on the current line of succession.
Fact Check: UWC Atlantic College is a renowned international school in Wales known for its focus on the International Baccalaureate program.

First step towards Felipe’s education

“The Princess of Asturias successfully completed the selection process reserved for students who have completed their secondary studies abroad and received a favorable evaluation from the Assessment Committee during the admissions process. This program, held on the Getafe campus, includes subjects related to political science, literature, law, economics, sociology, history, and international relations,” the statement continued, revealing the perfect curriculum for a future queen.

For Leonor, this marks a first step towards her father, Felipe VI’s educational path. Once relieved from the army, the then-heir to the throne chose to pursue law studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Carlos III University, chosen by Leonor, is known for being more modern and recognized for providing excellent training in economics and international relations.

The king and queen also specify that their daughter “will balance this period of higher education with her institutional commitments as the Crown heiress, as she did during her secondary studies and her three years in military academies.” The princess’s life knows no pause!
