American President Donald Trump declared this Tuesday, June 9 that the United States “must respond” to the attack which targeted an American Apache helicopter which was shot down by “the Iranians” and which crashed near the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East on Monday.

“Two pilots were on board; they are safe and sound. Nevertheless, the United States must respond to this attack,” he assures.

It is the second crewed aircraft that the United States has confirmed was shot down by Iranian forces since the war began on February 28.

An F-15E fighter-bomber crashed in April in southwest Iran. Its two pilots had been rescued, one of them after a particularly spectacular military operation.

The Apache helicopter is an attack helicopter, with a crew of two people, equipped with an autocannon and can also be armed with missiles.

A deadline of “two to three days” for a peace agreement

The US military’s Middle East Command (Centcom) previously said that “two crew members” of an AH-64 Apache helicopter had been rescued by US forces near the coast of Oman, about “two hours” after their aircraft was hit.

For his part, Donald Trump reaffirmed that the two pilots were unharmed after information from the New York Times reporting the crash of their aircraft.

Previously, he assured that American diplomacy was in the “final efforts” to reach an agreement with Iran to end the conflict in the Gulf.

“We are in the final stages of what is going to be a very, very good agreement,” he said, referring to a delay of “two to three days” for such an agreement to be concluded.
