The 34th meeting of the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine has started at the level of defense ministers of NATO member states. This meeting is taking place in a hybrid format, as reported by the Ukrinform correspondent.
The German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, British Defense Minister John Healey, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are physically present in Berlin.
During their opening speeches, the partners announced new support measures. Germany and the UK plan to strengthen Ukrainian air defense by delivering missiles and drones. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Defense Minister presented recent successes and strategic objectives of the defense forces.
The rest of the participants, representing about 50 countries, are joining the meeting via video conference. For the first time, the new Defense Minister of the Netherlands is participating in the discussions.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, US Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, is once again missing this meeting. The United States is among the few countries not sending a senior defense official to this crucial meeting among Ukraine’s allies.
