Over the weekend, a first round of discussions with American vice president JD Vance failed, but did not lead to a breach of the ceasefire that came into effect on April 8.

Donald Trump said on Tuesday, April 14, that the war with Iran was “almost over” after mentioning a possible resumption of discussions with Iran this week in Pakistan. “I think it’s almost over,” said the American president that evening on Fox News, stating that Iranian authorities “really want to reach an agreement.”

The American president also mentioned a possible resumption of discussions with Iran as early as this week in Pakistan. “Something could happen within the next two days,” he told a reporter from the New York Post.

Increased Pressure on Tehran

Over the weekend, a first round of discussions with American vice president JD Vance failed, but did not lead to a breach of the ceasefire in effect since April 8. Washington, however, increased pressure on Tehran on Monday with the implementation of a blockade on transit to or from Iranian ports.

<p"US forces have completely stopped maritime commerce from Iran," said Brad Cooper, chief of US forces in the region, on Wednesday, noting that around "90% of the Iranian economy" depends on it.

In this new power struggle, US negotiators could return to Islamabad this week for negotiations, according to Donald Trump, who praised the “great job” of mediation done by the Pakistani army chief, Asim Munir, to the New York Post.
