The entire aviation sector is now concerned about possible fuel shortages for flying planes. Italy has decided to ration some of its airports. The European aviation association warns of possible stock shortages within three weeks if maritime traffic is not restored.

The prices of plane tickets are soaring due to the war in the Middle East. Passengers waiting to board the next flight to New York are worried. Steven stated, “If prices keep rising, we won’t be able to travel anymore. We won’t afford it.” Michael is traveling to the United States with his wife and daughters and said, “With all the impact of the war, fuel prices may be canceled. So the less we’re affected, the better. We are happy to leave, but for future flights, I think some people may be worried about the situation.”

The price of fuel has skyrocketed from $750 per ton before the conflict to $1,900 on the morning of April 14. Fuel used to represent 25% of an airline’s operating costs but has now risen to 45%. Air France announces an additional 100 euros for a round-trip long-haul flight. Considering a 500 euro flight, approximately a third of the costs, 150 euros, is usually for fuel. However, due to the rise in oil prices, an extra 100 euros is added, making a fuel surcharge of around 100 euros reasonable, according to expert Paul Chiambaretto.

In France, low-cost airline Volotea has canceled some unprofitable flights. Several Italian airports have announced fuel rationing, leading to the cancellation of some domestic flights to Venice and Milan.
