“Deeply saddened by the accidental death of first class paratrooper porpoise Florian Gillet, from 8e Castres marine infantry parachute regiment, declared the Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans, Catherine Vautrin.My thoughts are with his family, his loved ones and his brothers in arms.

On June 10, 2026, Private First Class Florian Gillet, deployed to Lebanon within the Saliyeh Operational Military Partnership Detachment (DPMO), was hit by an accidental shot during the preparatory phase of training.

Taken care of immediately by the emergency services present on site, he received first aid before being evacuated to the nearest hospital. Despite the speed of his treatment, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Aged 21, Private First Class Florian Gillet served in the 8th Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment (8e RPIMa) from Castres. Deployed in Lebanon since 1is June, he participated in an operational military partnership mission for the benefit of the Lebanese armed forces as an infantry combat instructor assistant.

“Tribute to first class soldier Florian Gillet, who died today in the accomplishment of his mission in the service of France,”announced Army General Pierre Schill, Chief of Staff of the Army. Air Force General Fabien Mandon, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, also bows with deep sadness to the memory of this soldier who died in action. His thoughts are with his family, his brothers in arms, as well as all his loved ones.
