A new trial for rape against former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein ended in New York without the jury reaching a verdict, the prosecutor announced in a statement on Friday. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg expressed disappointment that the judge declared a mistrial in the absence of a verdict, while the victim, a former aspiring actress, has been “fighting for justice” for nearly ten years.
This case was the third trial, following the overturning of a previous conviction of Harvey Weinstein in 2020, and the failure of a previous jury to reach a verdict in 2025. According to Jessica Mann’s account, who was 27 at the time of the alleged incident, the American producer raped her in his Manhattan hotel room in March 2013. The defense claims that the sexual relationship was consensual.
Accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women, the prosecutor stated, “We will decide on our next steps in consultation with Ms. Mann and taking into account Harvey Weinstein’s pending criminal conviction, following last year’s guilty verdict for the sexual assault in 2006 of a former production assistant, Miriam Haley.” The 74-year-old founder of Miramax Studios has filed an appeal.
During the same trial in 2025, the producer of “Pulp Fiction” and “Shakespeare in Love” was also acquitted of an alleged sexual assault against Polish model Kaja Sokola in the same year. Harvey Weinstein, who now uses a wheelchair due to health problems, also appealed his 2023 conviction in California to 16 years in prison for the rape of a European actress over ten years prior. More than 80 women have accused him of sexual misconduct since 2017.
