Washington announced the cancellation of the deployment of 4,000 troops in Poland. Thousands of American soldiers had to leave Germany.

The United States canceled the deployment of 4,000 military personnel in Poland, a senior American official confirmed on Friday, as Washington reorganizes its forces in Europe following the announcement of the withdrawal of thousands of soldiers from Germany. Interrogated on this cancellation during a parliamentary hearing, General Christopher LaNeve, interim Chief of Staff of the Army, assured that the head of European Command “had received instructions regarding the reduction of personnel”. “I worked closely with him (…) and it seemed logical to us that this brigade should ultimately not be deployed,” Mr. LaNeve added, referring to the 2nd Armored Combat Brigade.

The Pentagon had announced earlier in the month that Washington would withdraw 5,000 soldiers from Germany. This operation was expected to be completed within the “next six to twelve months,” according to US Defense Ministry spokesperson Sean Parnell. President Donald Trump later stated that the reduction in personnel would go “well beyond 5,000 men,” without providing further details. These announcements come amid a sharp disagreement between the US president and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the war being waged by the US and Israel against Iran.
