The round of 16 of the Occitanie Cup will feature a derby between teams from Hérault.

For a change in this regional competition, it will be the players from Mèze coached by Castello-Sansone who will be the sole representatives from the Thau basin. However, securing a spot in the quarter-finals against a district team is not a guarantee.

A well-deserved record

The qualification of the “Yellow and Black” from Saint-Thibéry against the undisputed leader of the R3 pool, which includes Mèze SFC, was received with joy by the locals around Thau but also with skepticism.

This satisfaction comes not only because the club of the president and former Sète player Gabriel Tahar competes in D1, nor out of concern for the carbon footprint or fuel prices, but more so because at least one club from Hérault is guaranteed to be in the next round of a competition dominated by teams from the west of the region (eleven out of sixteen).

The Saint-Thibéry team qualified by facing teams from the regional league. Paulhan (R2), Baillargues, and Claira-Saint-Laurent (R3), it is definitely a record that deserves respect.

For the players from Mèze, no longer in the running in the championship, continuing their journey in such a prestigious competition would confirm and compensate for the great season the club has had.

This Sunday at 3:00 p.m.: Saint-Thibéry (D1) vs. Mèze SFC (R3).
