The German press targeted the behavior of Real Madrid after Bayern Munich eliminated them in the Champions League quarter-finals. Bayern Munich won both legs of the quarter-final against Real Madrid, securing their spot in the semi-finals. However, German media was critical of the behavior of some players and the coaching staff of Real Madrid. Sven Flohr, the sports editor at Die Welt, wrote a scathing article labeling Real Madrid as “the worst losers in world football”. He criticized the team for blaming the referee for their loss, stating that conspiracy theories have become a part of the club’s identity, leading them to lose credibility and dignity.
The journalist went on to say that winning is easy, but few know how to lose gracefully, pointing the finger at Real Madrid. He highlighted the team’s tendency to blame the referee for losses, instead of taking responsibility for their performance. As Bayern Munich progresses in the Champions League, they will face the defending champions, Paris Saint-Germain, on April 28th and May 6th. The first leg will take place at Parc des Princes, with the return match at Allianz Arena in Munich.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has little left to play for, aside from hoping for a highly unlikely collapse from FC Barcelona, who currently lead them by nine points in the La Liga standings with seven matches remaining.
