Former President Barack Obama benefits from the support of his friends to celebrate the inauguration of his presidential museum in Chicago.
Guests at Thursday’s inauguration ceremony include Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera and Bono, as well as former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Â
Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are expected to say a few words. This celebration, reserved for guests, will be broadcast live and will kick off a weekend of events around the Obama Presidential Center, which will open its doors to the general public on June 19.
President Donald Trump is not among the announced guests. He described this 850 million center as “a total disaster” in a message published on social networks in February.

Thursday’s ceremony “will reflect a spirit of inspiration and joy, thanks in particular to the contributions of the artists who will share their talents with us,” said Valerie Jarrett, executive director of the Obama Foundation and former senior adviser to Obama. Other celebrities scheduled to perform Thursday include Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Marc Anthony and The Roots.
General admission tickets to the center are sold out until the end of October. However, tens of thousands of people have already been able to get a sneak peek at this nearly 20-acre campus located on the South Side of Chicago, in Jackson Park.
Located near where Obama lived and began his political career, the center is expected to attract more than a million visitors a year. It is adjacent to the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in the lakeside park and is not far from the University of Chicago.
The campus includes a massive museum dedicated to the political and personal life of America’s first black president, while public spaces include a branch of the Chicago Public Library, a playground and sports center, basketball courts, and a picnic area equipped with barbecue grills.
