While some 2,000 people with the surname of Sullivan, the most common on the North Atlantic island, gathered in Ireland on Saturday, we wondered which surnames were most widely distributed in France. And according to the specialized site “Genanet” which compiled all the surnames assigned at birth in France, between 1891 and the year 2000, the top 10 is made up as follows: At the head, the Martins, by far, with 235,791 births. Followed by the Bernards (95,298), the Moreaus (81,341), the Petits, the Lefebvres, Durand, Dubois, Leroy, Thomas and Robert (63,428).

Jean Lefebvre was a French actor and comedian, famous for his comedic roles in cinema and theater, notably in the series “Gendarmes” alongside Louis de FunÂ. He died in 2004. His surname is the 5th most common in France, with 75,014 births between 1891 and 2000.
