It’s a dilemma that all couples must grapple with before heading to the altar: the last name. Keep your own, adopt that of Mr. or Mrs., or even mix the two? As Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding approaches, bets are off on the decision of the world’s most famous engaged couples.

It’s one of the rare things that Taylor Swift and her Jules share with ordinary mortals: the delicate choice of their last name, when saying “yes” to each other for life. If this choice is only existential for you and me, insignificant little people unknown to the general public, it is quite different when you have one of the best-known names on the planet. A name that allows you to brew tens, if not hundreds of millions.

To believe Page Sixwho has no equal when it comes to drawing up big plans on the comet, Travis Kelce “suggested” that he would be thinking about it seriously. Hear: On Tuesday, the NFL star liked an Instagram post from the podcast “Bussin With the Boys,” in which the hosts debate whether Taylor Swift should change her last name to Kelce after marriage.

During the show, a guest points out that Taylor Swift being “much more famous on a global scale” than her companion, it is the latter who will logically be responsible for changing her name. To which the hosts joked that “Travis Swift” would suit him well, but that “Taylor Kelce” sounded just as good… Before opting, finally, for a very Swiss version: a very neutral brace between the surnames of the bride and groom, thus forming “Swift-Kelce”.

The fact remains that this little “I like” dropped by the future groom on the publication delighted the fans of the singer and the tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, who each go with their own hypothesis.

Travis Kelce, Kept Husband

At this point, one thing is more or less certain about the Swift-Kelce marriage: it is Madame who will provide for her husband. At least that’s the theory of lawyer Sarah Luetto in Page Sixasked about the form that their prenuptial contract could take, knowing that Taylor Swift’s fortune weighs much more than that of her spouse.

Indeed, while the singer officially became a billionaire in 2024, Travis Kelce is sitting on a (comfortable) small fortune of around $47.3 million, according to Forbes.

Suffice to say that this prenuptial contract must have been a big headache for the lovebirds’ respective legal teams. Because not only are there significant disparities between their respective assets, but Taylor and Travis also both hold intellectual property rights and other assets that are “inherently difficult to value and share in the event of a dissolution of marriage.”

“Given the complexity of their respective assets – and the efforts made by Tayloe Swift to repurchase her masters and protect her musical catalog – it is likely that any prenuptial contract would keep their respective assets completely separate,” says lawyer Sarah Luetto.

Without forgetting that both of them each own several residences scattered across different states of the United States, where the laws are sometimes very different: Taylor Swift owns houses in New York, in the state of Rhode Island, in Nashville and in Los Angeles, while Travis Kelce has homes in Leawood, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, as well as a family residence in Orlando (Florida).

Clearly, between that of the surname and their future home, the future bride and groom have too many choices to build their future together.
