For a long time, Matthieu Delormeau has disappeared from the French audiovisual landscape. But for several months, the host has been back, notably as a columnist on the show Brand new. In parallel, he also wrote and published a book entitled Addictions and which retraces its history and its difficulties in an attempt to alert and raise awareness among others of the dangers of certain substances. At the microphone of Déborah Grunwald, he confided without filter on her chaotic love life and more precisely on this man he was very much in love with but whom he preferred to scare away. “It happened to me once, not very long ago, to fall very much in love with a boy. And he was such a good person that I told him: ‘Don’t get attached!’. Because living with me is a roller coaster†, he explained on the verge of tears.

Matthieu Delormeau was the victim of great trauma

It must be said that Matthieu Delormeau is aware of having a complicated life and a very particular character. “I gave him an example. I told him ‘you know, if you live with me, you’re going to experience wonderful things because one day in a ritalin rush from my ADHD I’m going to tell you, come on, we’re going to Venice, we’re going to have lunch! But the next day, I’m going to be on my couch for 8 hours, totally depressed…†, he confided with great lucidity and an honest look at his mental health. Despite his feelings, Matthieu Delormeau did everything to scare this man away. “It hurt me a lot, because I had feelings, but I preferred to protect him. I told him ‘don’t live with me, because you’re not the one who’s going to take me out of the pool, it’s me who’s going to take you under the water’†, he concluded sadly.

When Déborah Grunwald affirms that this decision was courageous, the columnist prefers to say that he simply wants…stop hurting others†. Following the interview, Matthieu Delormeau says he feels unworthy of being loved. An impression that dates back to his childhood and in particular to the time when his mother died from cancer, at just 39 years old. A tragedy which had serious consequences on the way he enters into relationships. “You hold on very, very tightly. You become very possessive because you are afraid of losing this person and you are convinced that they don’t love you. (…) So you constantly create conflicts, until the day the person leaves†, he explains.

Matthieu Delormeau believes in a more peaceful future

“I think of two boys that I miss… I did everything to make it stop. To destroy everything. I destroyed everything!†, he finally blurted out. Today, the columnist hopes to get his life back in hand and think that “the best is yet to come†, before announcing thathe would dream of having a child. We wish him all the best!
