Flavie Flament reveals a rape complaint against Patrick Bruel, mixing memory, justice and freedom of speech in a sensitive media affair.
Icon of French television and voice committed to victims’ rightsFlavie Flament established herself on the small screen thanks to her numerous broadcasts and her writing, notably via her autobiographical novel La Consolation. But today, it is in a much more serious context that his name dominates the media news. THE Friday May 15, 2026the host made official on Instagram the filing of a rape complaint against the singer Patrick Bruel, for facts dating back to 1991, when Flavie Flament was 16 years old. This complaint is added to those of five other women, while Patrick Bruel, popular artist, is already the target of three investigations in France and Belgium.
Beyond the notoriety of the protagonists, the affair challenges by nature of the facts put forwardthe seniority of events and the comparison of versions. Flavie Flament not only publicly denounced the singer: she also evokes the weight of silence, the difficulty of speaking out when you have been a minor victim, and the extreme pressure of inevitable media coverage. The social and legal repercussions promise to be major, as the case brings together powerful themes: celebrity, memory and the quest for justice.
The accusations of Flavie Flament: story of a drama and immediate reactions
According to testimonies provided to Médiapart and relayed by several media, Flavie Flament relates a sexual assault occurred during a photo session at the home of the artist Patrick Bruel in 1991. She claims that as a teenager, she was the victim of rape after suffering a loss of consciousness, then waking up in a state of shock. “He’s putting my pants back on and buttoning them up […] I don’t understand what’s happening to me.”she says – words that are as striking for their seriousness as for the distress they express.
This speech was not improvised. Flavie Flament had, in 2016, begun to expose the unthinkable in La Consolationfirst evoking the rape suffered as a child by the photographer David Hamilton. Today, she adds a new stone to her fight, explaining on Instagram: “Ten years after La Consolation, I have a new encounter with my past. And a man who plundered my adolescence. I am filing a complaint against Patrick Bruel for rape.”. The file, already heavy, takes on an additional dimension: five other women have also filed a complaint against the singer.
From then on, the facilitator’s position is accompanied by a desire toWorking for the liberation of speechand to support those who still hesitate to testify. “I speak for the young girl that I was, I speak for the other women who came out of silence, courageously, with difficulty, and whose words we dare to question. I believe them »she assumes to Médiapart. If the strength of the action resides in the collective, it does not mask the fear of a “second media affair” and the emotional charge of public exposure, as investigative journalist Marine Tuchi confided.
Face à ces accusations deemed vile and unbearable by the defense of Patrick Bruel, the singer recalls his presumption of innocence via his lawyers. He affirms with certainty that he “neither drugged nor attacked” Flavie Flament, and evokes an episodic relationship, maintaining according to him “always friendly exchanges” with the host since the 1990s.
Tense reunions and radically opposed versions
The case does not boil down to the alleged facts of 1991. Several episodes that occurred in the following decades also contribute to the case, revealing the tension and ambiguity of the relationship between Flavie Flament and Patrick Bruel. At the beginning of the 2000sthe host receives the singer during the show Stars à domicile. In September 2006a new meeting behind the scenes of a show in Bercy, where Flavie Flament recounts a chilling episode: “He hugs me and whispers in my ear: “Do you remember?†â€. She says she denied it, seized by fear, before hearing: « Bien sûr qu’on a couché ensemble »then to see Patrick Bruel leave as if nothing had happened.
According to Flavie Flament, once she was able to decide on the programming of her own shows, she systematically refused to invite Patrick Bruel, preferring to maintain her distance despite several impromptu meetings, during events or private stays, particularly in Vaucluse where Bruel has a hotel. The singer’s defense displays the image of “friendly relations” and insists on the fact that he would have been invited on shows when he was already in alleged conflict with the host, an inconsistency according to his lawyers.
Totally opposed, the two versions testify to the complexity of the matter. For Patrick Bruel, it is “an attack on his honor”, and he says he is the target of “false” denunciations. For Flavie Flament, the journey is part of a dynamic of liberation of speech, denouncing the weight of silence, the persistence of trauma and falling in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
