Maybe you’ll go to the movies this weekend. A survey by Que Choisir Ensemble reveals that the prices of cinema tickets differ from one cinema to another. The observation was also made in Puy-de-Dôme. The survey was carried out among around ten establishments in the department. HAS
Before, we entered a cinema purely out of desire. From now on, you can access it for a few euros more. In 2025, in Puy-de-Dôme, the price of a standard cinema ticket varied from 5.50 euros in the Ambert and Thiers basins to 12.90 euros in Aubière. This price, higher than the national average, at 11.30 euros, makes spectators cringe. A spectator indicates: “There is a wide programming so the choice is important. On the other hand, it’s a bit expensive†. A spectator adds: “There are 4 of us. We pay 55 euros. It’s not nothing. For a large family, going to the cinema is not easy†.
To continue to enjoy this leisure activity, cinema enthusiasts find tips and head towards the cheapest establishments, such as Paris or the Capitole in Clermont-Ferrand. A spectator confides: “That’s why we come here. The price difference is significant†. A spectator underlines: â€With the senior card, the place is 6.90 euros†. Another specifies: “In Cournon-d’Auvergne, on Monday, the place is 4 euros for the whole day and even in the evening. There are cities that are making efforts and that’s very good†.
How can we explain such a price difference? Rents are cheaper in the countryside than in the cities. The genre of the films offered, blockbusters or arthouse films, also affects prices. Daniel Bideau, president of Que Choisir Ensemble, insists: “We are in front of the Capitol, which is also an arthouse cinema. We also have Les Ambiances in Clermont-Ferrand, which has this label. Prices are much more accessible than other cinemas. This does not explain the average price which is around 10.50 euros and which rises to 12.90 euros in a cinema on the outskirts of Clermont.†.
In its investigation, Que Choisir Ensemble sends a red card to Pathé Aubière. In addition to displaying the highest rates, no discounts are offered to seniors.
