A majority of Israelis now believe that Israel’s security is not among US President Donald Trump’s top priorities, according to a poll published by the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI).

Carried out between May 31 and June 5 among more than 750 people, the survey takes place in a context of persistent tensions around Iran. More than three months after the launch of the American-Israeli offensive against the Islamic Republic, the discussions led by the Trump administration with a view to an agreement with Tehran are causing growing concern within the Israeli political class.

According to the poll results, only 41% of Israeli Jews and 44% of the general population surveyed consider that the security of Israel constitutes, to a large or fairly large extent, a central concern of Donald Trump. Among Israeli Jews, this figure marks a significant drop compared to May, when it reached 64%. This is also the lowest level recorded since the IDI began asking this question, after the election of Donald Trump in November 2024.

Conversely, 54% of Israeli Jews and 51% of all respondents believe that the American president gives little or very little importance to Israel’s security in his decisions.

The poll also highlights marked skepticism regarding negotiations with Iran. Only 27% of Israeli Jews surveyed believe that a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran would really weaken the Iranian regime, even though reducing the Iranian threat was among the main stated objectives of the war against the Islamic Republic.

These results reflect growing questions within Israeli public opinion about the intentions of the American administration and the consequences that a rapprochement between Washington and Tehran could have on Israel’s strategic interests.
