The political calendar is set to accelerate in the coming weeks and months. With it, will come the time of democracy, essential but also the time of debate, laudable and respectable, on the projects, programs, proposals of one and the other.
But the time of debate within the framework of an electoral campaign is also the time of falsely good questions and that of bad answers, the time of magic wands, of simple, even simplistic, ideas, the designation of scapegoats, the time of outbidding, the Lépine competition of bad ideas… To discuss the thickness of the labor code, on “ le système social impossible à réformer “, on the cost of labor which must always be reduced, on the promises of a saving big bang for pension plans, on the need to work more or work even more…
Independence does not mean indifference
Faithful to the principle of union independence, as in every election, Force Ouvrière will not give voting instructions and will not call for a vote for one or against the other. But independence does not mean indifference. FO will make its demands platform known and will disseminate it to the various candidates.
FO will recall in particular that the time of political democracy is not that of social democracy, especially in a context where political democracy is slipping, due to lack of a majority in Parliament, social actors appear as havens of stability and responsibility.
FO intends to raise structuring subjects with a long-term vision, how we project ourselves into the future, on work, the productive model, reindustrialization, the financing of the social model, the governance of the pay-as-you-go pension system, these are the subjects at the heart of the autonomous social agenda that we are engaging with professional organizations. The challenge is not to work more but to work all !
And we will call on all political leaders to respect the role and place of social partners, and to fully respect their prerogatives. We will again call for collective bargaining to be given its rightful place, convinced that it is through negotiation that we can find appropriate responses to the issues that arise in the world of work: on employment, particularly for young people and seniors, on improving working conditions, on better consideration of arduousness or even on the challenges that arise with teleworking, the arrival of AI or the demands of climate transition… so many themes which have a social impact and are therefore within the remit of trade union organizations.
