On May 29, during the general meeting, Maxime Saada, the general director of the Canal+ group, made announcements on the projects which are about to see the light of day on the channel. “The Revenge of a Blonde”, “The Babysitter’s Diary”… If in recent months it is American films which have seen their serial version in preparation, France also has its say.

On the program: two masterpieces from Jean-Pierre Melville’s repertoire, “The Army of Shadows” and “The Red Circle” which will soon see a version on the small screen.

The first, released in 1969, is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Joseph Kessel with Lino Ventura, Simone Signoret and Jean-Pierre Cassel. A feature film that takes us into the fight of the Resistance during the Nazi occupation. The second, which arrived the following year in cinemas, is a heist film which summons Alain Delon, Yves Montand and Bourvil.

Cinema classics

This craze for the classics of French cinema from the 1960s is also popular on the other side of the Atlantic. A remake of the cult film “The Man from Rio”, directed by Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac, is also in preparation with Sydney Sweeney.

And the wave of nostalgia doesn’t seem ready to stop. Other adaptations are in the pipeline for the French group. The cult English series “Bowler Hat and Leather Boots” should also get a makeover. More recent fictions are also concerned such as the action film directed by Liam Neeson “Non-Stop”, as well as a feature film based on “The Divorce” by Freida Mcfadden, a novel by the author of “The Maid” again new in France.

However, we will have to be patient before discovering these revisitations of cult films on our screens. For now, no broadcast date has yet been confirmed by the channel. To be continued…
