Accused of rape and sexual assault by several women, Patrick Bruel was indicted for rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment of nine women following his presentation to the investigating judgesannounced the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office this Wednesday, June 10. As specified in a press release, the prosecutor requested “the opening of a judicial investigation (…) and his indictment for acts of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment”as well as his provisional detention.
The news of his indictment immediately caused Jade Dousselin, the lawyer for Daniela Elstner, general director of Unifrance, to react. “This is a real first legal victory for the victims. This request is obviously a strong and important signal which shows that justice has – finally – become aware of the seriousness of the facts”she indicates in a press release. As a reminder, his client had filed a complaint against the singer for attempted rape.
Will Patrick Bruel be placed in detention after the announcement of his indictment?
The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office requested the provisional detention of Patrick Bruel. After his indictment, the sixty-year-old now appears before a judge of freedoms and detention. It is the latter who will decide, or not, whether he is incarcerated.
