The MJCs of Occitanie gathered in Millau to prepare for the future

Delegations from all over the region met in Millau. This Saturday, May 30, the House of Youth and Culture hosted the general assembly of the Regional Federation of MJC of Occitanie (FRMJC) for a day dedicated to exchanges, assessment and the future.

While the bagpipes resonated in the courtyard of the Créa on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the twinning between Millau and Sagunto, the representatives of the different structures met in the René-Rieux room for the opening of the general assembly, in the presence of Mayor Christophe Saint-Pierre.

The members then examined the various points submitted to the vote: activity report, financial report, membership amount or even renewal of bodies. The morning also allowed us to address the issue of cultural rights in the MJC, through the presentation of a political declaration carried by the FRMJC.

Thinking about the challenges of popular education

The doctoral student in education and training sciences at the University of Toulouse, Marie-Laure Roques, then spoke on the transformations of actors and practices in the fields of education and training, before a time of discussion devoted to the political dimension of MJC.

After the lunch break, the participants continued their reflections during the “Agora Tchatche”, organized in the form of workshops. The discussions focused in particular on the preservation of the autonomy of popular education structures and on the place of young people in territorial development.

“These workshops allow us to update the needs of the MJC and partner territories in order to think about actions for next season“, explains Daniel Jean-Pierre, director of the FRMJC Occitanie. Enough to nourish the thoughts of the MJC for the seasons to come.
