Where to find cheap books? The Amnesty International book fair is the perfect opportunity to redo your library at a lower cost. From May 13 to 17, activists from the local Amnesty group are selling a wide selection of books 1€ each. It’s no surprise to see the event attract so many people. We come with large bags, crates, shopping trolleys, all means are good for transporting the collected works.

Audrey did not know about this annual meeting; the members of her reading club informed her. “I took more books than I expected! Rather than detective novels, I’m mainly looking for authors that I already know.” Géraldine also knows very well what she’s looking for: “Esoteric books, on health and nature. I already have around ten, the ones I don’t keep will go into a book box.”

The regular at the fair took the opportunity to donate her old works to the association. “We harvest throughout the year, and also during the fair,” assures Laurence Anstett, responsible for the event at Amnesty.

Readers eager for new finds have a wide range at the fair. History books, human sciences, novels, cookbooks, photos, comics and children’s books, the selection is wide. You just need to have the patience to rummage through the many boxes spread across the large room. There are some on and under the tables, and Amnesty volunteers are constantly replenishing the stocks.

Pétitions

Laurence Anstett recalls that the event is above all an activist meeting. A table at the entrance brings together a dozen petitions launched by the association, which visitors are invited to sign. “We also invited partner associations to hold stands on Saturday. Osmose, the association for the defense of LGBT rights, AFPS (Association France Palestine Solidarité), and Migr’action have done their part. »
