The blazing sun of last year gave way to a chilly breeze on the Place du Marché, this Saturday, May 16, in Sarrebourg, for the cultural fair of the Amitié franco-turque association.
Never mind. Here, the warmth is above all in the hearts and in the smiles.
Starting with that of Fadime Kaya. She leads with good humor a brigade of around fifty women responsible for concocting Turkish specialties. Under a large tent transformed into a kitchen, they dip donuts in honey and spread the dough for the gezleme and lahmacun… Gestures passed down from mother to daughter since the dawn of time.
“The advantage of this fair is that we can count on representatives from all the regions of Türkiye. It is an open door to the richness of our gastronomy. Everything is prepared and cooked on site. It’s a lot of work and we happily welcome curious people under the tent to explain our recipes to them,” explains Fadime Kaya.
Days of preparation
A second team is responsible for the sweet pleasures. Here again, making pogaça, lokma, yas pasta and other baklava required days of preparation. “And women are still in the kitchen to restock us regularly. » The men take care of cooking the meat.
Because beyond the demonstrations of traditional dances and the music, it is the culinary specialties that make the fair a success. The less adventurous come for the classic kebab and are finally tempted by an adana skewer or an ekmek arasi kavurma.
You haven’t had time to taste it? Don’t panic: the event continues this Sunday.
