At the head of a regiment of 900 active soldiers and 250 reservists, she became the first woman to be commander of the Train. Ready to take on many challenges.

Solemn atmosphere this Wednesday morning, around the vast parade ground, at the heart of the 503rd Train regiment, based in Garons. A regiment specializing in force logistics, which transports resources and supplies the units. In front of numerous officials, Colonel Nicolas Vergos, in post for two years, handed over command to Fanny Peluttiero for a period of two years.

He left for the First Army Corps in Lille, as an expert officer in operational logistics, strong “a rich operational experience in the 503rd Train Regiment: I participated in Operation Sentinel in Ile-de-France with 200 people from the regiment but where I commanded a tactical group of 900 soldiers from all arms or even a signaling exercise strategic in Romania”. And he will remember some Gard“a land of very strong traditions, the day of arrivals in a herd in Saint-Gilles and my first bullfight”. Completely exotic for this original Breton!

300 people for the Allied reaction force

It is Colonel Fanny Peluttiero who takes the head of the 503rd Train regiment, previously assigned to the logistics headquarters in Essonne. Originally from Draguignan, she attended Saint-Cyr, the war school, and was posted for eight years in Burgundy and ten years in the Paris region.

One of its biggest challenges for the next two years will be the Allied Reaction Force (ARF), a high-level multinational NATO readiness force. “Concretely, troops are on alert for a year from July 1, to be able to intervene in the event of attacks. In the 503rd RT, around 550 people are involved who will participate in operational preparation”she specifies. The regiment will also continue its engagement in Operation Sentinelle.

Parade on the Champs-Élysées on July 14

It has been more than five years since the 503rd RT last paraded in Paris. Having barely arrived at command, Colonel Peluttiero will therefore participate in the July 14 parade this summer in Paris. “It’s a very great honor and a challenge,” she explains. We practice this exercise quite infrequently on this scale.” Around 90 soldiers from our regiment will participate in a parade on foot. They will reach the capital from July 6 to carry out numerous rehearsals before D-Day when everything must be perfect.

First woman, corps commander in the Train army, she ensures that “to command well you have to be yourself, have particular skills and appetites, but man or woman, it doesn’t change anything even if I perhaps have a slightly more mothering style of command”.

While the international context is very tense, she, like her predecessor, confirms that the armies are preparing to “a high intensity commitment” with hardening of operational preparation. “Since Mali and Afghanistan which were demanding missions, we continue… The enemy and the threats have evolved, we have toughened preparation to get used to working in difficult conditions”, explains Ganny Peluttiero.
