Outfits as extravagant as ever. The Met Gala 2026, organized for the benefit of the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, returned this Monday, May 4, bringing together as usual a shower of stars.
Under the theme “Fashion is Art”, this edition, co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams, welcomed nearly 450 guests from fashion, entertainment and politics.
From Katy Perry to Sabrina Carpenter, via Rihanna and Bad Bunny, the evening offered its share of surprises on the red carpet. Three French women also made a notable appearance: the influencerLéna Mahfoufalias Léna Situations as well as the singer Yseult and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg.Â
An eminently political gala
In reaction to the arrival of Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez Bezos as main sponsors of the event, a call for a boycott had gained momentum in recent weeks. Messages posted on social networks and posters stuck up in New York denounced the billionaire’s proximity to Donald Trump and the working conditions of Amazon employees, of which he is the founder.
But on arrival, all the expected stars were there and Jeff Bezos carefully avoided climbing the steps. Generally speaking, unlike previous years, the evening was largely devoid of political messages, from the outfits to the statements on the marches. Some demonstrators gathered near the museum, some brandishing the message “Tax the Rich” in giant cut-out letters.
